Heart Sounds Reference Library

The famously popular iMurmur Heart Sounds Teaching App, now with major upgrades:

* REAL PATIENT SOUNDS REPLACE ARTIFICIAL SOUNDS.
* ACTUAL PHONOCARDIOGRAMS AS WELL AS DIAGRAMS
* ADD YOUR OWN NOTES
* EMAIL LIBRARY SOUNDS

IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to the use of REAL PATIENT SOUNDS with low bass content, you MUST use GOOD SEALED HEADPHONES to listen to iMurmur sound recordings. The Built-in speaker WILL NOT PRODUCE REAL HEART SOUNDS!

We at Thinklabs liked iMurmur 1.0 so much that we bought the App! We kept the great features, and upgraded the sound library using actual patient recordings, to give you the most realistic learning experience possible. Weve also added real Phonocardiograms that you can scroll and edit as you would actual patient recordings on iMurmurs clinical tool partner, Thinklabs Stethoscope App.

This is a great pocket reference for both teachers and students of cardiac sounds, as well as practicing physicians for patient education. iMurmur includes the following for each sound:

* Description of sound
* Phonocardiogram
* Diagram of sound morphology
* Where To Listen
* Clinical Notes
* Pathophysiology
* Associated Pathology

Sound Library (current list, subject to increase with future updates):

* Aortic Regurgitation
* Aortic Regurgitation, Ejection Systolic Murmur
* Aortic Stenosis
* Atrial Septal Defect
* Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy
* Korotkoff Sound
* Mitral Regurgitation
* Mitral Stenosis
* Mitral Valve Prolapse
* Normal Heart Sound
* Pericarditis (friction rub)
* S2 Split
* S3 - Congestive Heart Failure
* S4 - Fourth Heart Sound
* Tricuspid Regurgitation, S3
* Ventricular Septal Defect

All recordings done on a Thinklabs ds32a Digital Stethoscope with external audio recorder.

To record patients, purchase Stethoscope App by Thinklabs, to be used with Thinklabs Digital Stethoscopes.

Editorial Explanations regarding Reviewer Comments:

1. This App uses REAL HEART SOUNDS and sealed headphones MUST be used. This App VERY ACCURATELY produces sounds heard through a stethoscope. One reviewer could not hear sounds. Please follow this advice - this App really is like using a stethoscope and sealed eartips are essential.

2. Comparison with iMurmur One -
A. The previous iMurmur used artificial sounds. These seemed easier, so some reviewers preferred them to real patients. However, no patient would ever sound that way, so learners get a false sense of confidence in their auscultation skills. Reality is a better teacher.
B. We added clinical content, which is now reviewed by experienced cardiologists.
C. We added REAL phonocardiograms to complement the simple diagrams which existed before. This adds realism to the educational content.

Pros and cons of iMurmur 2 app for iPhone and iPad

iMurmur 2 app good for

I dont know what all the fuss is about, this app has helped me master my understanding of heart sounds... Yes the sounds are free online but I love the simplicity of it being in my pocket!
It work only with headphones , which I think is reasonable, to mimic the stethoscope !
I think this is a great app, and I dont understand what people are so grumpy about. It works beautifully. I work at a teaching hospital, and being able to show students and residents a visual representation of what theyre hearing is very powerful teaching tool. Id pay far more for something like this. This app has amazingly good recordings of heart sounds. Theres information on where to listen for the various sounds, and great visual representations of the heart sounds.
I was a little hesitant buying this after reading some of the reviews, but Im glad I did. It works great. You do need to wear headphones to hear anything, but Im ok with that. The sounds are very accurate. As a medical student I can say that this app is a study tool and would recommend it to anyone.

Some bad moments

The older version was better. They took away the quiz function with this newer version which makes it a fairly useless app.
I typically write very good reviews, but I just couldnt with this one. Please dont buy. Total waste. You can find these sounds free online. The only app Ive ever had to rate 1 star. The app would be a waste even if it was free. I beg you guys to defer.
I had Imurmur and had to restore my phone When I redownloaded the app I was charged! Apple is giving a refund since you are not to be charged twice plus this app has no SOUND!!!
A huge disappointment and major decrease in quality from the first version - which is a shame bc now you can not find it to recommend bc THAT app was great. Better apps out there now for this along w free sites online make this a worthless app, should have gotten a refund but was hoping for an improved version if the old one not a cheap knockoff.
The heat map only complicates things. Selecting sounds is awkward. I prefer the older version of imurmur.
For the amount of money this is, it offers nothing in comparison to many others available. You can barely hear it!! Waste of money... I get more out of a You-Tube video on my iphone, and thats free!
